LEESBURG, Va., June 15.— All the breeding stock — four stallions and forty-four • • brood mares, the majority with foals — twen- j ty-six yearlings and one four-year-old geld- ing, were sold by the Fasig-Tipton Company ] of New York, at Belmont Plantation, near here today. The dispersal was for the account of E. B. McLean. The seventy-five lots, exclusive of foals, which sold with their , dams, brought a total of 21,100. The four , stallions sold for a total of 8,500. The brood mares brought 14,100, while the ; yearlings brought 7,350. The young thor- oughbreds averaged ,206 per head. The four-year-old gelding Iron Heels, son of i ■ The Porter — Brocatelle, by Radium, and ! half-brother to Toro, was bid in for ,150. J The sale attracted a large crowd, many ■ -breeders and turfmen coming from distant ] points to bid on the offerings. Mr. McLean, ! master of Belmont Plantation, was not pres- , 1 ent, being seriously ill in Washington. The highest price of the sale was paid by • Mrs. John Hay Whitney for the stallion The ; i Porter. She gave 7,000 for the sixteen- • j year-old son of Sweep — Ballot Girl, which i 1 has proven such a successful producer. The imported mare Brocatelle was the next highest priced purchase.
