ASSURED OF BRILLIANT FIELD Absence of Sun Beau Not Expected to Detract From Interest in Peabody Memorial. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 25.— Although Sun Beau, top weight horse, has been practically declared out of the Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap, to be run as the closing day feature at Washington Park, interest in the annual mile and a quarter feature event is none the less keen, and the fans are assured of witnessing a brilliant contest between crack horses. With the withdrawal of the Kilmer star, which has been shipped to Arlington Park, the concensus of opinion is that Gallant Knight, great Audley Farm four-year-old, will go postward an overwhelming choice. His work of one and one-eighth miles in 1:53 75 was decidedly impressive, and many look for him to lower the track record. Several experts look for Mike Hall to give the son of Bright Knight his hardest race over the gruelling distance. The Agua Caliente Handicap winner, always rated a splendid cup horse, was never in better condition, and trainer Taylor predicts that he will run back to his brilliant Mexican effort in the Peabody Memorial. His short work this morning was easily accomplished. He will go to the post in his best form. A general checkup of the field again today revealed the fact that the following may be considered almost certain starters for the 0,000 added prize. Gallant Knight, Satin Spar, Mike Hall, Snowflake, Paul Bun-yan, Ironsides, Morpheus, Lady Broadcast and Tannery, while the doubtful ones are Islam, Jean Lafitte, Pansy Walker and The Nut. Pigeon Hole, running companion of Mike Hall on several occasions, will not be able to get to the barrier. He pulled up lame after his race in the Chicago Beach Hotel Handicap Wednesday, and is in all probability due for a long lay-off. The race, named in honor of one of Chicagos greatest sportsmen of past years, will be run with all the embellishments. Taps will be sounded for the departed father of the Washington Park Jockey Clubs vice-president before the running of the contest, and the winner will be decorated at its conclusion.
