RASA AVIS, responding gamely when urged in the stretch, wore down MELODEON to take the lead in the final eighth and hold WEESIE safe. The latter gained steadily after starting from an outer position and was going well at the end. MELODEON dashed into the lead after going a quarter, took a clear lead 6n the stretch turn, but could not last. SALLY IRENE had no excuses and could not keep up after Starting well. TADDYWAWA, away slowly, gained steadily on the outside and, challenging gamely in the last quarter, passed the early leaders an eighth out and held sway to the end. PORT HARLEM met early interference and showed a good performance. PANCHIO, racing wide on the last turn, closed gamely and would have been second in another stride. BOILING showed improvement. HOT SHOT was in close quarters several times. JXJWNPOUR was shut off at mid stretch. TONEY JOE was pocketed next to the rail in the stretch. TOMBEREAU could not get into the lead and was never a serious throat. UNENCUMBERED took a good lead soon after the start and, continuing gamely after being headed by PRINCE VOLTA. although meeting interference from the latter in the last eighth, got to the lead again in the last stride. PRINCE VOLTA dashed to the front rounding the stretch turn, but bore in slightly and was beaten in the last stride. MENDELL made up much ground to beat the others. BOURBONITE suffered interference. TONIGHT was shuffled back after the start. LEJOY met interference and PRINCE HERBERT Was shut off sharply rounding the far turn.
