MERRY WINDSOR WINS AGAIN « John T. Irelands Filly Easily Best in Bainbridge Headliner. i Weather Intensely Hot But Clear — Peterkin Stages Fast Finish to Win Third Race of the Day. • GEAUGA LAKE, Ohio, June 25.— John T. Irelands Merry Windsor scored her second consecutive success at Bainbridge Park when she led by a rather comfortable margin to win the Buckeye State Purse, the fifth race this afternoon, with considerable to spare. Alamae raced into second place in the first quarter, which she held easily, but was no match for the winner. One Cent and Purple Robe were in closest pursuit of the leaders for half the distance, but when the stretch was, reached Netie Pebbles moved up next to the inner rail. All through the final drive Netie Pebbles and One Cent fought it out closely lapped, and One Cent gained the minor award by a head in a hard drive. Purple Robe tired badly, and the others cut little figure in the running. The weather was intensely hot but clear, and the track was at its best. The attendance was of average mid-week-day proportions, and a majority of the events were productive of interesting finishes. Jockey H. Roble and the Mikel Stable added additional laurels to their records here when Shift wore down the pacemaker, Cash Play, in the final hundred yards of the initial race. After causing a long delay at the post by his bad behavior, Cash Play displayed fine speed until midway in the stretch, only to tire in the final drive. Glad Effort outstayed Marabou for third. Dr. Hickman quit badly after displaying a flash of early speed. Mote began slowly and saved ground in the stretch, but could never get up. Wise Maid displayed the most speed of those engaged in the second race until midway in the stretch. A furlong out Pangloss moved up on the outside of the pacemaker and drew away into a clear lead in the final stages and scored his maiden victory. Wise Maid was much the best of the others. Sedgie saved ground in the stretch and secured the short end of the purse in a drive with the fast-finishing First Chance. Esplanade set out to make a runaway affair of the third race, with Starzan in closest pursuit. While on the turn for home Stuart Polks Peterkin moved up with a rush on the outside and raced past the leaders decisively in the stretch. Atcines moved up next the inner rail in the final furlong, and handily disposed of the others. Never far from the leaders, Decline outlasted the tiring Esplanade easily for third. A thrilling stretch struggle came with the running of the fourth race. Sweet Senorita had wrested the lead from Thistle Vic approaching the turn for home, with Melmor following. Queen Whims then challenged, and this trio were racing closely lapped a furlong out, with Queen Whims next to take command. With a well-timed rush, Nonenicer came fast on the outside in the last sixteenth and headed Queen Whims in the last few yards. Bellsmith, closer up than usual in the early stages, outlasted the tiring Melmor and Sweet Senorita for third.
