BELKS PROMISING BAND NEW YORK, N. Y., Jan. 5. James Belk, a newcomer to the turf, who will train his own horses, has three promising juveniles two colts and a filly wintering at the Jamaica track. The youngsters, which are thriving during the cold months, will be shipped to Bowie in February and there made ready for their first appearance under colors. The filly is a bay daughter of Snob U. and Madam Curie. She is well built with fine shoulders, large quarters and racy lines to recommend her. She has a smart-looking head and a fine set of legs, which give her smooth action in her gallops. The colt, by Axenstein and Pink Tea is a solid bay in color with "no markings. He is short coupled, with a good head, set on a well-formed neck. He has great depth through the heart and large girth. He impresses as a horse that will carry high weight and race well over a distance of ground. He is a gentle-mannered fellow. The chestnut colt, by Transmute Van-vine, is built on sprinting lines. He has low withers and high quarters. His legs are weli shaped and he has a smooth way of going. If appearances are a criterion, he should more than pay his way in the coming season.
