DEEMSTER, away forwardly but taken under light restraint in the early stages, moved up fast on the far turn and, racing BROWN SUPINET into defeat, drew away entering the stretch, but had to be hard urged to withstand the challenge of PATRICK CALLAHAN. The latter, on the inside early, was crowded back at the three-eighths post and, taken to the outside midway around the turn, closed steadily, but could not overhaul the winner. TUSCAN KNIGHT, hard urged, but racing wide all the way, finished resolutely in the stretch. BROWN SUPINET, hustled into the lead after the start, showed speed for half a mile, then began to tire and quit badly in the closing sixteenth. MISS CHILLA, close to the leader for half a . mile, took command on the stretch turn arid, responding gamely in the stretch, outlasted BIG SPRING. The latter, under vigorous pressure throughout; moved up with a rush on the stretch turn, then tired. LIGHT AIR, repeatedly blocked while racing on the inside for three-eighths, gained steadily when taken to the outside and was going fastest of all in the closing strides. SHASTA LOVER saved ground throughout and had no excuses. MIKE CAREY began slowly -and was not persevered with in the early stages, but closed fast on his own courage. CASTLE ROCK, slow to find his stride, gradually improved his position after the first quarter while racing on the extreme outside and finished with a belated rush. ORKIN raced evenly throughout. CABILDO, outrun for three-quarters, gradually improved his position thereafter and wore down PRETTY PENNY. The latter, rated behind the pace, saved ground throughout, but tired under pressure.
