RICH STAKES CLOSE MONDAY Pimlico Fixtures Include Preakness, Futurity, Nursery, Dixie and Other Valuable Races. PIMLICO, Md., Jan. 7. The attention of horsemen is called to the fact that entries to the stakes to be decided at the Pimlico spring meeting close Monday, January 11. These comprise the Pimlico Nursery, and Home-Bred, for two-year-olds, with ,000 added to the first named and ,500 with a piece of plate to the Home-Bred. The Preakness, for three-year-olds, entire colts and fillies, 0,000 added, over one mile and three-sixteenths; the Lady Baltimore, formerly known as the Pimlico Oaks, for three-year-old fillies, ,000 added; the Jennings Handicap, three-year-olds and over, ,000 added, over six furlongs; the Dixie, three-year-olds and over, 5,000 added, over one mile and three-sixteenths; the Spring Handicap, three-year-olds and over, ,000 added, over one mile and a sixteenth, and the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase Handicap, four-year-olds and over, ,000 added, two miles. The Billy Barton Steeplechase, for hunters five-year-olds and over, amateur riders, three miles over the brush course, will have a supplementary closing April 6. Entries will also close January 11 for the Pimlico Futurity of 1934, for produce of mares bred in 1931 and foaled in 1932. Entrance fee, which must accompany the nomination, is only 0, with no further obligation except the starting fee of ,000. The Pimlico Futurity has an added value of 0,000, which, with nomination and starting fee all to the winner, makes it one of the most valuable and coveted stakes in the world.
