RUSH WORK AT HIALEAH PARK Workmen Rapidly Putting Finishing Touches on Miamis Beautiful Course Expect Widener. MIAMI,, Fla., Jan. 7. Work is being rushed at Hialeah Park in order to-have the I ,500,000 reconstruction program completed in time for the -opening Thursday. Painstaking thoroughness of detail in carrying out the plans laid down by Joseph E. Widener has forced a certain deliberateness in progress, but department chiefs report that everything will be in readiness when the first "boots and saddles sounds over the grounds. Mr. Widener will arrive from his home in Philadelphia Sunday, January 10, for a final inspection of the plant. The stabling accommodations have been completed for six weeks, and the paddock enclosure and administration offices received their final touches last week. Sodding of outlying areas is proceeding rapidly. The infield landscaping is finished except for the setting out of the floral design, which will run along the front stretch rail. The creepers covering the islands in the artificial lake and the shrubbery in the centerfield were touches added early this week. Daily tests are being made in the totalisa-tor units, and Mortimer Mahoney, director of mutuels, has his staff aligned and his plant completed in both grandstand and club house. The color scheme of the odds boards was changed today from black on white to yellow on black, the new coloring making for much greater visibility. Artistically designed chairs and tables were set out on the club house terrace today, and ornate benches were distributed throughout the paddock lawns several days ago. The interior decorating in the club house is within days of completion. The furniture will be installed early next week.
