KINCSEN EARNS PURSE ! Panetian Lowers Three-Quarters " Time Record at Miami. XTunierous Surprises During Day at Hialeah Baal Pays Record Place and Show Odds. MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 4. Kincsen, the daughter of Cudgel and Buckwheat, which races for F. A. Carreaud, gave a remarkable exhibition of thoroughbred gameness at Hia-Jeah Park this afternoon when she was .winner of the Vanetian Island Purse, a Condition affair that was the feature of an interesting card. In the Long Key Handicap, which pre- . fceded that race, George D. Wideners Panetian lowered the six furlongs mark to 1:10 i ivhen he took the measure of Don Leon. These features attracted a surprisingly large crowd, and, while the races furnished , many a thrill, it was sport that was marked . by some surprise winners, among them being Buoyant Days and Single Star, as well as panetian. In the feature Kincsen was outrun in the early stages, while Waterway, Dancing jblack and Gay Bird were the ones to show the way. The daughter of Cudgel is not re-inarkable for early speed and she was well 1 back of these for the first half-mile, but ; she was galloping smoothly and gradually ; Snaking up ground on the outside. LONG DRIVE GAMELY. This course cost her much ground on the Stretch turn, while Hanford saved ground ; fen the inside with Uluniu. The pair of them disposed of the early pacemaker when the final furlong was reached, but the mare had to stand a long drive gamely to win by a ; Xfeck from Mrs. Pollards campaigner. Gay Bird had more left than the others to jfeasily take third from Dancing Mack. G. D. Wideners Panetian, the swift-run-ping son of Galetian and Pan Maid, established a new six furlongs track record jtohen he was an easy winner of the Long Key Handicap over R. W. Collins Don Leon, the Brookmeade Stables Helianthus, and !A. B. Gallahers Back Log. He followed a terrific pace set by Don Leon to race past the Collins sprinter in the stretch and complete the distance in 1:10. There was some delay at the post when Don Leon was the only one of the quartet that behaved. The start was a good one, and Pollard had Don Leon off fast to run a first quarter in :22 and the half in :45. Panetian was right after him and showing the way to Helianthus. Back Log dropped put of the running. In the stretch Panetian had no trouble racing past Don Leon and at the end he was three lengths to the good. SHOWS IMPROVED FORM. Buoyant Days, from the Paramount Stable, showing vastly improved form over any of his other efforts at the meeting, was an easy winner of the opening mile, for cheap maiden three-year-olds. Joe Edwards Baal .was the one to save the place, and third went to A. B. Gallahers Manassas when he outfinished Fair Blanche for that part jbf the purse. A record place and show price was displayed against Baal when he showed 71.10 to place and 48.30 to show for each two-collar wager. Mortimer Mahoney reported that only had been bet on him for the place and 2 to show. Make Speed cut out the running, and Buoyant Days raced in second place. This Ivyas well maintained until into the stretch, .where the Lowenstein gelding weakened, and Buoyant Days took command and won by a length and a half. Baal closed resolutely in the run through the stretch and, While he swerved sharply almost at the finish, he had beaten Manassas a neck for the place. Make Speed had quit utterly in the final furlong, while Single Kay, a natural contender in such company, ran a surprisingly dull race. There was another juvenile victory for the Willis Sharpe Kilmer silks in the second yace, for fillies, when Dark Love, a daughter of Traumer and Sunny Love, won with plenty to spare over Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Foul Tip, and Last Bid from the Paramount Stable, just saved third from Blue Dusk. There was a considerable delay at the post, during which Edith A. unseated J. Mann, with no damage done. Then Last Bid .tvas taken to the outside of the stalls when he would not enter her allotted one. The Continued on thirteenth page. McGinnis quickly sent her into the lead and she had speed enough to cross to the inside without interfering with any of the others. At the end she was two and a half lengths clear. Foul Tip finished with good courage to take second place by a length and a half from Last Bid, which in turn badly beat Blue Dusk. Joe Edwards useful old mare Single Star came back with an excellent race in the third, a claiming event for fillies and mares, when she was the winner over J. C. Ellis Ellice and Ed Medians Brooksie was third, beating Marshall Fields Sobieha for that part of the purse. Right at the start Single Star stumbled rather badly while Sobieha was away in motion and Lady Fingers went with her, Ellice racing third and the others in close at tendance. Kurtsinger soon had Single Star in her stride and she moved up on the outside, but her misfortune at the start left her far back in the early stages. Sobieha soon put Lady Fingers away, but Ellice went after her with such determination that it was the Field filly that tired. In the meantime Single Star had raced up and caught Ellice in the stretch to pass her and be the winner by half a length.
