ARRAY forced the early pace under light restraint, slowly wore down GRAPHITE and, continuing fairly well under hard driving, came away slowly in the final eighth. BAD NEWS, a factor throughout and under mild restraint until reaching the final three-eighths, withstood the drive gamely. BEGGAR LADY, never far back, lost ground and tired slightly after moving up menacingly on the outside, in the stretch. LOYAL LOUIE raced well. GRAPHITE, given a hustling ride, saved ground after the first eighth and tired in the closing quarter. TIEDEMANN was unable to get up. BAG O ROSES had no mishaps. PRINCESS SLIM began poorly. OPEN HEARTH showed speed from the start, was well in hand until reaching the final sixteenth and, responding slowly to hard urging, and, coming through between ELKHART and ADRIAN entering the final eighth, won drawing away. ELKHART, hard ridden, lost ground, but later worked his way into the lead, only to tire. LOFTY HEIGHTS began slowly, improved his position gradually and was racing strongly at the end. ADRIAN cantered off three-sixteenths before the start, showed good speed, but tired. BRIGHT KNOT moved up mildly after reaching the stretch, but quit in the final stages. BUNTING LAD bore in repeatedly. JACK B., taken back when in close quarters on the far turn, lacked speed when clear. BROAD AXE began fast, was forced wide on the first turn and, rated back of the pace until reaching the final quarter, raced resolutely thereafter, wore down SQUEEZE PLAY and outlasted SPORTING BLUES. The latter saved much ground in the early stages, responded well after going to the outside in the stretch and was wearing down the winner. RESPOND began slowly, raced wide most of the way and moved up resolutely in the stretch, then tired. TEA GREEN had no mishaps. SQUEEZE PLAY bore out on the first turn, went around the leaders on the far turn and drew clear quickly, but tired in the stretch. Start good out of machine. Won driving; second and third the same. SPRINGSTEEL, away fast but slightly outrun early and in close quarters, came through on the inside entering the stretch and, drawing into command, outlasted SAZERAC. The latter showed speed from the start, forced the early pace under strong restraint, lost much ground when forced wide by FLYING DON on the stretch turn and closed fast. CRYSTAL PRINCE, taken back slightly to escape interference, withstood the drive gamely. FLYING DON showed his best speed, bore out badly on the stretch turn and quit badly nfter five-eighths. TEXAS KNIGHT met early interference, followed FLYING DON and SAZERAC out on ihe stretch turn and failed to respond when hard urged. Scratched 68260 Sir Kendal, 106.
