REVISE FAIR GROUNDS PURSES Slight Change May Be Made Next Week Distribution Out of Proportion to Returns. NEW ORLEANS, La., Feb. 10. A slight revision in the schedule governing purse j distribution may go into effect at the Fair Grounds next week. For the first time in a number of years the next or third issue of the racing program, carrying conditions for all races, will cover only a period of six days, beginning Monday and concluding a week from Saturday. This will permit a return to the present schedule within a weeks time if business, which has been improving daily, justifies. Up to this time purse distribution at the Fair Grounds has been out of proportion with receipts, and with the full co-operation of horsemen, officers of the Louisiana Jockey Club hope to alter it in a manner both satisfactory to horsemen and a bit fairer than the present schedule to the management. During the first fourteen days of the meeting, four stakes, carrying an aggregate of 0,000 in added money, were run. They were the ,000 added Mardi Gras Handicap; ,000 added Pontchartrain Handicap; ,000 added Rex Handicap and ,000 : added Inaugural Handicap. For the first : nine days of the meeting the minimum purse was ,000, and since last Thursday only the : cheaper horses have raced for 00 purses, and at least two races of ,000 value each, ; were run daily.
