ONO improved his position steadily in the early stages and, coming resolutely in the stretch, wore down STARFERENCE and won going away. STARFERENCE, in close quarters early, came through an opening on the inside and took command in the first quarter but, although racing well to the end, could not withstand the winner. DON JR. took command when PEACE JOHNNY raced -wide on the far turn -and held tan fairly wall CORDON BLEU- was shut Tff and forced to pull up all around the first turn, but came fast in the stretch and was probably best. VIA was shuffled back to last place in the first half, but came again in the stretch. DONNA ULRICA ran a good three-quarters, then tired. PEACE JOHNNY raced wide on the last two turns. MY OWN LAD had little trouble outlasting MONTFERRAT. The latter, weakly ridden, was under restraint with his rider looking back during the back stretch run and furnished little opposition when challenged. The others were outrun.
