1931 STAKE WINNING JOCKEYS Riders Who Won Feature Races Last Year Totaling From ,000 to 0,000. Records of jockeys who won in 1931 stakes amounts varying between ,000 and 0,000 are given herewith. There are about a dozen of these jockeys who won stakes of more than ,000 value arid several of these were winners of but a single stake. J. Long ran his total to 1932.sh,955, but he did not win any stake of quite ,000 in vaue. J. Leyland won two Tanforan stakes that were worth a total of ,825. S. Renick won one of the richest stakes that fell to the jockeys of the "five to ten" class, which was the Saranac Handicap that went to Danour. This was worth ,500. The Toboggan Handicap, which J. C. Meek won with Caruso, carried a value of ,250. G. Smoot won the Saratoga Steeplechase Handicap with Beacon Hill, worth ,350, and J. Ball captured the Brook Steeplechase with Sydney. This was worth ,200. The first San Diego Handicap at Agua Caliente, carrying a winners share of ,375, vent to the credit of W. Johns, who rode Alexander Pantages. R. Heigle, riding Tannery, won the Washington Park Handicap, ,210. F. Thorndyke rode Beelzebub to victory in the Charles L. Appleton Memorial Cup Steeplechase Handicap, Beelzebub defeating Chenango, and taking down ,200. E. Watters won the Pimlico Nursery Stakes with Election Day. This was worth ,150. The Chevy Chase Steeplechase Handicap, which went to Huffy, with J. Pierce up, carried a value of ,100. R. Tildens Fort Dearborn Handicap was worth ,725. Pittsburgher was his mount.
