j DERBY ELIGIBLES HOW j THEY PERFORMED IN 31 ! ADOBE POST Cherokee Ruth S. This gelding heads the Kentucky Derby entry list solely by alphabetical arrangement. He has done little to warrant the belief that he will ever be seriously considered in such company. In his juvenile year he started twenty-one times, was second four times and third five times. Probably his best race, at any rate his best in any event of importance, was his second to Proteus in the Idle Hour Stakes at Lexington. He was nominated by Knebelkamp and Morris. AIR PILOT Swift and Sure Snowcapt Nominated by W. J. Salmon. He first distinguished himself by winning the Pim-lico Homebred Stakes, defeating the favorite Faireno handily. He was then better than 5 to 1 in the betting. Later he finished second in the Breeders Futurity at Latbnia, beaten a length by The Bull and being slightly best in a blanket finish with Kak-apo, Cold Check and Modern Queen. He then was better than 25 to 1. He finished third to Kakapo and Pompeius, beaten four and a half lengths by the winner, in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. The Salmon entry of Air Pilot and Mad Pursuit was favorite. Air Pilot ran much the better race and was not menaced for third place. Air Pilot is a colt. ALLENFERN Assagai Lady Teresa Allenfern, a gelding nominated by J. Ed-wax-ds, won only one juvenile stake, that" a small one. It was the Ardsley Handicap, at a mile and seventy yards, on the Empire City track. He defeated, among others, Brandon Mint, another Derby eligible, and took down ,630. Whisking and Waylayer were choices in this race and the Edwards youngster received little attention, as he , had not performed reassuringly in previous small stakes on the metropolitan tracks. Later he distinguished himself by finishing second to On Post in the Walden Handicap. This was a highly creditable performance, for behind him were such as Osculator, Air Pilot, Mad Pursuit, Mad Frump and Proteus. BARASHKOVA For Fair Kiva A gelding nominated by Lon Jones and son. He won only two races, out of fourteen, as a two-year-old. Soon after graduating, at Washington Park, he started in the Thomas Curran Memorial Stakes and finished well up, though not in the money. His first bid for stake money, however, was in the Bashford Manor Stakes and he gave a fair account of himself. He ran two good races at Latonia during the fall, before retiring for the winter, winning one and finishing second in the other. BARCELONA PETE Blue Pete Barcelona Bred by Sanford Stud and owned by Max Hirsch. He left the maiden class in one of his early races at Laurel, and most of the small success that he attained was on the Maryland tracks. In one victory he defeated the Greentree youngster, Espinaca, by two lengths, and others in the beaten field were War Plane and Daisaburo. He defeated Dark Mission in another event. Both of these were at a mile and seventy yards. Barcelona Pete is a colt.- BATTERING RAM Bubbling Over Knockany Bridge One of the five nominated by E. R. Bradley, and this fact is his chief claim for attention. He was unplaced in all races as a juvenile, but resumed racing during the winter, after a let-up, and was showing some promise. BAY ANGON Angon Miss Washington Bay Angon, a gelding named by Edgar A. Igleheart, was the winner of three races at two, but he did not get into the stakes. He has been running with the common lot of his age on the New Orleans winter tracks, with a small amount of success. BERTJOHN Broadway Jones Bulldoze One of the Bradley eligibles. He von only one race, a maiden affair, in 1931, but was more prominent in his early starts of the present year, in New Orleans. In one of these he defeated some other winter Derby eligibles by five lengths, at a mile. Throughout the winter he was a consistent in-the-money colt. BIG BEAU Supremus Big Sis A nomination of Hal Price Headley that was deemed good enough last year to be sent in the Pimlico Futurity and several other stakes, in which he ran fairly "even" races. He several times indicated that he would like a distance and in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and Pimlico Futurity he was improving his position toward the finish. He was a starter in the Hopeful Stakes and finished in the middle of the big field. . BLACK -BOARD Black Toney Sunny Sal Is one of the two representatives of M. L. Schwartz. He emerged from the maiden lists at Bowie last fall but has done little since. If he has any qualifications as a Derby colt they have yet to be shown. . BLACK POWDER Black Toney Melenite This colt made eight starts in 1931 without finishing in the money. Nominated by Fair Stable. BLUE ARAB Aga Khan Blue Teal Made eleven starts in 1931 and was once in the money. His only stake adventure was in the Sanford, at Saratoga, in which he trailed a big field as a 100 to 1 shot. Nominated by Hastings Stable. To be continued.,,
