SUN BEAUS STUD CAREER Worlds Largest Money Winner to Be Afforded Every Chance. Son of Sun Briar Mated With Nineteen Royally-Bred Mares at Kilmers Virginia Farm. NEWMARKET, Va., Feb. 24. It is never certain that any great race horse Will make good at the stud. In truth, the number of racing stars of the first magnitude Salva-tor, Longstreet, The Bard, The Friar, Henry of Navarre, Fitz Herbert, etc that were failures staggers. On the other hand, scores of horses of lesser turf fame have come through brilliantly as stock horses. But no man, particularly one in production, ever fails to give a good horse, no matter what his blood lines may be or what the record in breeding his female line is, a chance. Sun Beau, son of Sun Briar and Beautiful Lady, the worlds greatest thoroughbred money winner,, even if he is not regarded in all quarters as good as was Reigh Count, son of Sunreigh and Contessina, which came from Willis Sharpe Kilmers Court Manor Stud, one of the great nurseries of the valley of Virginia, with him to the tv.-0-year-old. racing of 1927, is going to have the best of chances at his home farm. Kilmer is seeing to that. RETIRED LAST FALL. Sun Beau returned to Court Manor last fall after having won some 76,744 in stakes and purses during the years of 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930 and 1931. In the Hawthorne Gold Cup in 1928, packing 126 pounds, he ran one mile and a quarter in 2:01, which was the third fastest time ever made at the distance on this side of the Atlantic. KILMER RESERVES SERVICES. Because he preferred to take the first gamble on Sun Beau, Kilmer fixed his stud fee at ,000, which. is more than almost any breeder cares to pay to mate a mare with any stallion in good times, much less an untried one in times of world-wide depression like these. It costs ,000 to breed a mare to Sun Briar, Sun Beaus sire. Nevertheless, such is the .renown of the daddy of Sun Beau, Sunsini, Pompey, Sun Meadow, Sun Edwin, Sunference, Sun Forward, Sunny Man and Sunsard, producers are breeding to that son of Sundridge and Sweet Briar right along. At seventeen Sun Briar is in superb health and a sure foal getter. The other Court Manor stock horses are the German Trau-mer, son of Dark Ronald; Genie, son of Man o War; Herodot, another son of Dark Ronald; Sun Circle, a son of Sun Briar; Neddie, son of Colin; Gift Hawk, son of Rich Gift, and Mint Briar, son of Assagai. Mint Briar is a haL: brother of Sun Briar. Neddie and Genie were acquisitions of last spring. Neddie, a son of Colin and Black Flag and a first class two-year-old of 1928, is the weakness of John Holm, the capable manager of Kilmers great breeding establishment, the second greatest in Virginia and one of the most considerable in the country.
