TO BE SEEN AT LATONIA Gallant Knight Entered in Several Stakes to Be Run at Covington Meeting. LATONIA, Ky., June 8.— Gallant Knight, the sterling handicap representative of the Audley Farm Stable, of Bernard B. Jones and the holder of the American record of 1:16% for six and one-half furlongs, will return to the scene of one of his greatest conquests. The five-year-old son of Bright Knight and Ethel Gray, was named for the Quickstep, Independance and Enquirer Handicaps, three of the seven stakes to be decided during the thirty-one days of spring racing, starting at Latonia Saturday, June 25. Although it was at Churchill Downs in 1931 that Gallant Knight clipped four-fifths of a second off Boojums mark for the six and one-half furlongs, it was at Latonia that he annexed the forty-ninth running of the Latonia Derby the year before. After finishing second to Gallant Fox in the 1930 Kentucky fixture, he finished second to Reveille Boy in the American Derby and lost the Ohio Derby to Dixie Lad. However, he was much the best in the Fairmount Derby, but it was in the Latonia fixture, the only derby at the regular distance of one mile and one-half, that he regained his lost laurels. He went from Latonia to Arlington Park, only to be beaten again by Gallant Fox in the Classic, but racing luck played a prominent part in the Foxs victory and with a better break, it was the opinion of the majority that Gallant Knight would have been the winner. It is the intention of Kay Spence, long a favorite with Latonia racing fans, to divide the large western division he now has quartered at Washington Park. He will bring a division to Latonia and the others will remain at Chicago. In addition to naming Gallant Knight for the handicaps, Spence nominated Renewed for the Latonia Derby, Late Date and Fair-lee for the Latonia Oaks, Higher for the Quickstep, Woodcraft and The Choctaw for the Independence and Woodcraft for the Enquirer. Spence also is a liberal nominator for the Clipsetta Stakes and Cincinnati Trophy, the two stakes for two-year-olds. Out of nine starts last season, Gallant Knight won five races for a total of 3,750. At the end of the 1931 season, Gallant Knight had amassed 08,449 for owner Jones during his three years of racing and , with his numerous engagements this season, he has a good chance of entering the select class of winners of more than 00,000. J. B. Respess Our Fancy, which finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby, thereby beating the other western representatives. Burgoo King being the lone western-owned colt to finish in front of him, is eligible for the Latonia classic. He was among the numerous nominations, the Erlanger sportsman made for the seven stakes. Our Fancy, is | j now at Bainbridge and whether or not he accepts for the Ohio State Derby, he will be prepared for the Milldale race.
