CURRAN MEMORIAL PROSPECTS Bed Whisk, In High and Other Star Youngsters to Be Seen Under Silks. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 8.— All the best juvenile colts and geldings at Washington Park, including, no doubt, future Derby winners and turf champions, will be under colors in the renewal of the ,000 added Thomas Curran Memorial in the place of honor on Saturdays program of the Washington Park Jockey Club. The race, to be decided over the trying course of five and one-half furlongs, is expected to engage C. C. Van Meters crack gelding Red Whisk; Dixianas In High, winner of the Bashford Manor Stakes during the recent Churchill Downs meeting; Audley Farm Stables Me-taurus; W. F. Axtons Old Hillside; R. W. Collins Levaal and Le Bruyere; C. E. Hamiltons Mt. Washington; Knebelkamp and Morris Spanish Way; Mrs. W. Crumps Head Play; Mereworth Studs Projectile; North-way Stables North Galis; Hasty Peter, another owned by Dixiana, and others. Experts look for the race to result in one of the most keenly contested races of the entire year in this division and, while many see In High and Red Whisk as the most capable of the probable participants under silks, the field includes several youngsters as yet "unknown quantities" to turf enthusiasts, but held in high regard by attaches of their respective stables. In this latter group is North Galis, the strapping son of Sir Galahad III. and Fasnet, in Norman W. Churchs Northway Stable, and, from the manner in which he ran the five-eighths distance over a good track at Washington Park today, he may have much to say about the race. Accompanied by the fleet filly Chatter Queen, North Galis ran five-eighths in 1:01%, the half mile in :48%, today, and, while under a light drive, the workout verged on the sensational. Trainer E. L Fitzgerald has slowly brought him into racing condition and is counting on him for great things. With Prewar working with him, In High ran five-eighths in 1:02%, handily, bright and early today and his companion Curran candidate, Hasty Peter, went a similar distance in 1:03, well in hand. The popularity and importance of the Curran Memorial is well told by the fact that the fixture attracted 204 nominations, the list of eligibles including the best colts and geldings in all western stables and many of the large eastern establishments. With fifteen starters the stake will have a gross value of ,540.
