FAST GALLOPS AT LATONIA Trainers Take Advantage of Fine Condition of Track and Send Charges Along at Good Clip. LATONIA, Ky., June 8.— With the Latonia track in superb condition and slightly more than two weeks remaining before the opening of the long thirty-one day meeting, June 25, horsemen sent their charges along at a merry clip this morning. Although T. H. McCaffreys Honey Hunter showed the most speed when he reeled off a half-mile in :47, it was the work of W. E. Smiths three-time winner and unbeaten Otherwise that came in for the most attention. The son of Wise Counsellor and Kitty Yansen and Cincinnati Trophy eligible covered three-quarters in l:16Vi breezing. Accompanied by Onside, Otherwise broke from the five-eighths post and ran over the opening quarter in :237s and the half-mile in :49%. He was timed the five-eighths in 1:02%. Jack Weaver, who is conditioning the Smith horses, called on the winner, Lonwin, for a gallop at five-eighths. She completed that distance in 1:02% driving. Johnny Daniels had the Southland Stables stake eligibles out for trials, and his Independence, Quick Step and Enquirer Handicaps candidate. Playtime, breezed an easy mile in 1:48. My Hobby broke behind him and went the mile. Wise Mona, which was named for the Clip-setta Stakes, on opening day, breezed three-eighths in :40, while Pass Christian, nominee for the Cincinnati Trophy, breezed three-eighths in :36%. W. H. Whitehouses Royal Julian had his first breeze since his return to training, and the son of Royal II. stepped three-eighths in :38%.
