I WASHINGTON PARK NOTES Wood F. Axton, prominent Kentucky owner, was an arrival from Louisville to witness the Derby. E. P. Howard, publisher of the New York Press, made the trip from the East to take in the big race. Our Fancy was a late scratch in the American Derby, and jockey C. E. Allen, who had been engaged to ride him, accepted the mount on I Say, the only filly in the race. J. H. Patterson stated today that Col. Phil Chinn has sixty horses to be disposed of during the Saratoga sales. According to Patterson, some fine lookers are in the lot Willis Sharpe Kilmer made a handsome offer to Johnny Maiben Friday night to ride Sunmelus in the American Derby but, as Maiben had previously been engaged on Yonkel, he was forced to decline. Jimmy Smith, who originally was scheduled to ride Burgoo King before the latters accident, was given the mount on the Kilmer colt Jockey H. Fisher and C. McCrossen left for Latonia Saturday night, while S. Coucci and A. Robertson departed for New York. Jockey Willie Fronk celebrated a birthday Saturday, while jockeys C. Corbett and C. E. Allen will be another year older Sunday. 1
