LAT0N1A MEETING NEAR Thirty-One Days Racing Begins at Kentucky Track Saturday. Golden Jubilee Derby the Outstanding Stake Feature Plenty of High Class Racing Material. LATONIA, Ky., June 20 Fair Latonia will throw open its gates Saturday for its thirty-one day meeting during which seven stakes including the Golden Jubilee Derby, with an added value of 5,000 will be decided. The old Milldale course, that had its inception during the month of June, 1883, is in all its glory as the time for the annual parade of the thoroughbred draws near. Where nature overlooked its artistic touch, the Latonia management has supplied the artificial lustre and guests on Saturday at the beautiful plant will gaze on a vista that only nature and man could complete in harmony. The Clipsetta Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, at five and one-half furlongs, will have its fiftieth running as the feature on opening day and from all indications thet cream of the juvenile filly division will contest for the purse, that has added value of ,000. In keeping with other years, the leading stables of the country will be here for the meeting. In addition to the Derby and Clipsetta, the other stakes to be decided are the Independence Handicap, the Cincinnati Trophy, the Quickstep and Enquirer Handicaps and the Latonia Oaks. In other years the greatest horses of their age and sex have added their names to the long list of winners of this old fixture and from all indications this year will be no exception. HIGH CLASS DERBY FIELD. Although the added money for the Derby was cut from 5,000 to 5,000 this year, it will not rob the famous old fixture of any of its glory for its fiftieth running on July 2. With assurance that Morton L. Schwartz Gusto, the winner of the American Derby and William Woodwards Faireno, which accounted for the Belmont Stakes, will be here for their engagements and with the nominations of those that followed behind Gusto in the Washington Park classic as well as several that failed to accept the issue, the gruelling journey of one mile and one-half probably may decide the three-year-old championship of the year. In addition to these splendid named three-year-olds, the ill-fated Burgoo King and Boatswain ..re eligible for the race and until their untimely misfortune, the race would have been one of the leading attractions of the year. Col Matt J. Winn, executive director will be in charge of the meeting, with Charles F. Price presiding steward in charge of racing and William H. Shelley, racing secretary. William Hamilton will officiate n.t the barrier, with Shelley, Samuel McMeekin and Sherman Goodpaster placing judges. Judge Price will have as his associates in the stand Thomas C. Bradley, C. Bruce Head and Elijah Hogge. Russell Sweeney,- residen manager and Charles Nolte, track superintendent have been busy for weeks preparing the plant for the opening. Sweeney reports a heavy demand for clubhouse memberships as well as a large reservation list for boxes for Derby day.
