TOE DANCE BY SMALL MARGIN Barely Lasts to Get Decision Over Roselys in Jacques Cartier Purse at Montreal. MONTREAL, Que., June 20 The Jacques Cartier, fashioned for fillies and mares, to contest the six furlongs route, was the event of major importance listed for the third day of the Montreal Jockey Club meeting at Blue Bonnets. This saw a field of seven clever fillies furnishing the contention in the race, which was under claiming conditions, and there was a popular triumph when R. Leslies Toe Dance scored. Ridden by W. Cleverley, the Leslie colorbearer came to the end of the journey giving her last ounce of energy to take a half length decision over L. Ianconas Roselys, while beaten a like margin came H. T. MacFarlanes Wee Toddler II., a winner of her last three races. Cudgeldoe, from the R. S. McLaughlin Stable, was next in order and retained a big margin over Soliloquy, which proved much the best of Gev and Chaste Morn. Toe Dance, from a good break, jumped away into the lead, while Roselys had enough speed to follow along in pursuit, and Cudgeldoe, going along in third place with Wee Toddler II. right at his flanks. Soliloquy was out before the others and kept rather close to the pacemakers. Cleverley was saving much ground with his mount, and this stood him in good stead as Toe Dance began to tire fast in the final furlong and in doing so began bearing out badly near the finish. Cleverley, however, held the filly together and in a stubborn drive managed to have her winner. Roselys and Wee Toddler II. both were forced out by the winners desire to swerve and both were fighting it out furiously, as they gradually began cutting the winners margin down. Idft.ii ionditions prevailed for Mondays entertainment at Blue Bonnets for the third day and with the free gate fee for the feminine sex, the attendance reached its largest figure for the week-dav attfinrtanpo.
