ARLINGTONS STAKE-A-DAY POLICY Schedule for First Week of Meeting, Commencing Monday, June 27 Bahr Starting Gate Installed and Schooling Begins ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 20. The stake-a-day policy of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, which will be introduced during the thirty-one days meeting beginning Monday, June 27, is certain to meet the approval of Chicagos racing enthusiasts and assure daily programs of the highest caliber. For the first week of the meeting the stake schedule is as follows: Arlington Inaugural Handicap, 3-year-olds and upward, seven furlongs. .June 27 Gold Coast Stakes, 2-year-old colts and geldings, 5 1-2 furlongs ..June 28 Garfield Stakes, 3-year-olds, 1 mile June 29 Winnetka Stakes, 2-year-bld fillies, 5 1-2 furlongs June 30 Shoreland Stakes, 3-year-olds and upward, 1 mile July 1 Arlington Oaks, 3-year-old fillies, 1 1-8 miles . .. July 2 - iOl The Arlington Inaugural has ,000 added and closed June 1, with fifty-one nominations, including some of the fastest horses on the turf. Among the entries are Gallant Knight, Folydorus, Jamestown, Epithet, Pompeius, Dr. Freeland, Pairbypair, Risque, Spanish Play, Morsel, The Nut and Silver-dale, which won the first running of this race in 1930 and repeated in 1931. A field of fifteen or more starters is certain for this opening day attraction and with the Arlington track at its best, even faster than last year, a new track record is looked for. The Gold Coast Stakes closed with eighty-five entries, the Garfield with fifty-nine, the Winnetka with eighty-seven, the Shoreland with sixty-seven, and the Arlington Oaks with seventy-three, one being a supplementary entry at 00. The Arlington Oaks has 5,000 added and among its nominations are all the best three-year-old fillies of the year, including Top Flight, which is being pointed for this race. The Bahr starting machine, to be used in all races during the coming meeting except those at seven furlongs and one mile, in which the stationary stalls are available, was set up in the seven furlong chute Sunday and starter Roy Dickerson began schooling horses in it this morning. Horses from New York, where the Waite gate is used if any, are expected to attend Dickersons school frequently. He will be assisted by Eddie Thomas, Joe Nelson and John Morrissey, members of Harry Morrisseys crew. Morton L. Schwartz Gusto, winner of the American Derby; .has been left by trainer Max Hirsch in the care of Kay Spence, who handles the Audley Farm Stable, and Spence will shortly transfer him to Arlington Park, Continued on twenty-first page. y -r ARLINGTONS NEW POLICY Continued from first page. where the American Flag colt may rule as one of the favorites for the 5,000 Classic, to he run July 16. Hirsch returned to Belmont Iark, where he will prepare other members of his large stable for Arlington, where he expects to campaign a string of twenty. Chicago racing fans, who had their first glimpse of the sensational young eastern jockey, Sylvio Coucci, as he rode Gusto to victory, will see much of the 17-year-old lad from the Bronx during the Arlington meeting. He will come to the North, Side course with his. contract employer, the Greentree Stable, which is expected to have sixteen members of its first division here. Charles Kurtsinger, first string rider, also will accompany trainer William Brennan. . Mose Lowenstein, one of the first to bring his stable to Arlington, having arrived last week from Toronto, reports Kakapo to be in splendid condition and a likely starter in the Arlington Oaks July 2, when she may oppose Top Flight and Evening. The R. S. Clark filly won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last fall. Stepenfetchit, which was returned to Arlington Park following his effort in the American" Derby, came out of that engagement in good condition and will now be prepared for the Classic. Trainer James W. Jlealy said the Mrs. John Hay Whitney colt was at a disadvantage in the heavy footing and requires a fast track for his best effort.
