IMPROVEMENTS AT LAUREL Racing Strip Completely Recon-v structed and Resurfaced Entire Plant Is Renovated. f LAUREL, Md., June 27. No longer can H horsemen complain about the racing strip at Laurel, Maryland State Fairs picturesque course, as track superintendent "Woods Dick-erson has just finished remodeling it, using 3,000 yards of special soil. Dickerson dug lip the track last April and spent nearly two months rebuilding it. It has an excellent drainage system and when the Maryland State Fairs twenty-four day fall meeting opens October 3, horsemen will find the track second to none in this state. In addition to rebuilding the racing strip, Dickerson has been remodeling his stables and planting shrubbery throughout the course, which is dubbed the "Saratoga of , Maryland" by racegoers. The administration building, circular paddock, club house, grand stand and stewards, judges and timers stands have been renovated, making the plant more picturesque. Parking facilities on the tracks property have been increased and now 8,000 automobiles can be accommodated. Special roads for Baltimore and Washington motorists for entering and leaving the course have been completed. Jack Campbell, racing secretary, is busy on the book for the meeting. It will include all the stakes run in recent years with the 5,000 Washington Handicap, one mile and a quarter, the outstanding event. When president Andrew J. "Cy" Cum-mings, on behalf of James Butler, majority stockholder in this track, announced that the proceeds of the opening days racing will be donated to the fund which Governor Albert C. Ritchie is raising for Marylands unemployed, it struck a popular chord. Given clear weather on October 3, he expects to add at least 5,000 to the states funds.
