The latter went to the front early and held on well after making the pace. PORTCODINE improved his position steadily in the last quarter and was going well at the end. HIGHER could not keep up. JAZ AGE was away slowly and was never dangerous. The others were outpaced. Start good out of machine. Won driving; second and third the same. GOLD STEP, never far from the leaders, came gamely after entering the stretch and, taking command when JAMESTOWN and MY DANDY began to tire, held POLYDORUS safe at the finish. POLYDORUS, probably best, was in close quarters in the stretch, but found an opening near the finish and would have won in a few more strides. EPITHET improved his position in the stretch and was going well at the end. MY DANDY raced on even terms with JAMESTOWN in the early stages, but tired. JAMESTOWN took a short lead in the early stages, but was used up racing with MY DANDY and tired under his weight in the final drive. SILVERDALE could not keep up. The others were outrun.
