Twenty-two outstanding performers of the two-year-old division are scheduled to start in the third renewal of the 0,000 added Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap. The stake, one of the foremost of those offered by the Hawthorne management, will feature Saturdays card and. the six furlongs contest will undoubtedly bring out the champion two-year-old of the West. This fixture was first inaugurated in 1928 when the Audley Farm Stable furnished the winner in The Choctaw, which led home Double Heart and Coal Black, which finished second and third. The value that year was ,330 to the winner. There was a lapse of two years when the stake was abandoned, but revived in 1931 when the Nevada Stock Farms Hygro, under the light impost of 106 pounds, won in the sensational time of 1:11 from Liberty Limited and Portden was awarded third through the disqualification of Oscillation, which was set back for fouling. Saturdays field is the largest ever to accept in this stake, but there is a strong possibility that withdrawals will cut the number of starters to about a dozen. Mrs. W. Crumps Head Play will probably rule a strong favorite, due to his sensational trials for this event. However, he will have to perform in his best style to down such good ones as Swivel, Gloritone, Miss Brilliant, Ballygran, Hope to Do, Red Whisk and Projectile. The management of the Hawthorne track has made preparations to entertain a capacity crowd, which is certain if the same ideal weather conditions of the past week continue over the week-end.
