HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES 4 Jockey Willie Garner returned from Dade Park and will stay here for the remainder of tie Hawthorne meeting. Jockey W. Todd swung into action Thursday when he rode El Puma in the sixth race. The lad was engaged on six horses, but five were withdrawn. Ann Clay was excused by the stewards Thursday on the report of G. W. Ogle, the owner, that he was unable to correct the fillys tendency to run out and the stewards have advised him not to enter her until he is satisfied that he has rigged her so that she would not be dangerous in a race.- R. S. Shelley, racing secretary of Sportsmans Park and the tracks in western Can. ada under the supervision of R. J. Speers, is a visitor and will remain until Tuesday, when he will depart, for Winnipeg. Mr. Shelley was accompanied by his father W. S. Shelley, who serves as racing secretary on all of the tracks under the direction of Matt Winn. There will be a sale of horses in the paddock at Hawthorne next Thursday. Consignments from the Nevada Stock Farm, Superior Stable and J. J. Coughlin will be offered along with several other stables. J. McDowell will be the auctioneer. The injuries of Prince Volta have as yet failed to yield to treatment and owner A. A. Baroni fears that he will have to !.e destroyed. Trainer J. J. OMalley, who has charge of the thirty-two horses that are racing for i Audley Farm Stable at Hawthorne, received instructions from Kay Spence to ship the entire string to Havre de Grace, where they will be campaigned on the Maryland tracks. Owner John Marsch announced that he will ship his horses to Maryland following the Hawthorne meeting and that Chief John and Camp Boss will start in several stakes at the Laurel meeting. A
