The filly picked up a three-inch rusty nail while being led from the training track to her stable at Oklahoma. Horsemen who saw the nail state that it was the largest they had even seen. It passed completely through the foot. The veterinarian was called immediately and stated that the filly would not be out of danger for a day or two and that she would be on the shelf for some time. H. Booker stated that he would ship a dozen horses to the Tanforan meeting next week. C. Irby arrived from the West to attend the Rancocas sale. John Cochran, who has been in charge of the Rancocas brood mares and yearlings for several years, was complimented by horsemen on the condition of his charges brought to the sale. The annual meeting of the Havana-American Jockey Club will be held here next week. Ernest Hall reports that the New York sportsmen have, made liberal entries for the Laurel Stakes that are to be closed Thursday. John Zoeller will ship a string to Syracuse for the racing there and Lester Smith will take over three he is training for J. J. Kelly. John Hastings has applied for eight stalls at Syracuse and will ship his stable to that point. Harry Giddings stated that the purchases made at the Rancocas sale would be shipped to Toronto. Tom Gorman of the Connaught Park Jockey Club was an arrival today. John P. Doyle, the "Landlord," so widely known to sportsmen of the turf in his year3 at the Stafford Hotel in Baltimore, has taken over the Hotel Bayou at Havre de Grace. R. A. Smith was fined 0 by the stewards for running Polar Brush in blinkers without permission. William E. Smith, chairman of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, was among the arrivals for a few days of racing. Jockey T. Malley leaves for Chicago Thursday to ride Faireno in the Hawthorne Gold Cup there Saturday. Trainer Bill Irvine states that he is shipping the S.Labrot stable from here to Marl-borpj Md.
