MMMMWWM INFERNO LAD IN GOOD TIME Defeats Hogans Dance in First Feature at Bainbridge Park. First Mission Shows Marked Improvement and Finishes Third in the Fairmount Purse Chianti Winner Again. GEAUGA LAKE. Ohio, Aug. 24 Ideal conditions . prevailed for the reopening of Bainbridge Park today and a fine crowd was in attendance. The weather, although warm, was not excessively hot and the track was at its best. Inferno Lad carried the silks of J. Salinski to victory in the Fairmount Purse, the fifth and principal, offering. L. W. Kidds Hogans Dance raced to second place, with First Mission third. The mile and seventy yards was traversed in 1:42 within one-fifth of a second of the track record. Displaying startling improvement, First Mission raced, to the front at once and contested the leadership, closely lapped with Pan until the stretch was reached. Jockey McTague, who had taken Inferno Lad back off the pace, then moved up strongly on the outside of the leaders. Midway of the stretch the Dunlin gelding secured a slight lead and increased his advantage through the final furlong to win with much .to spare. Hogans Dance came strongly next to the inner rail from the rear through the stretch and outlasted the others. In the final drive First Mission secured the minor award by a narrow margin from Pan. Claret, well fancied, raced in a contending position for half the trip but weakened through the final quarter mile. James Bronnenbergs Odd Star took the opening event, leading throughout by a comfortable margin and winning with something in reserve. It marked his third consecutive victory. Jockey T. Reno sent Artistry after the winner from the start, with Dimock following. When the final test came Dimock had the most in reserve; and outstayed Artistry for the second award. Under good handling by the promising apprentice R. Clemons, Shift also led throughout in the second race. The gelding was doing his best at the end, however, to retain his slight advantage. Red. Vest saved much ground in the stretch and, closing courageously next the inner Tail, finished a bang up second. Donday, the favorite, was forced to work his way up from the rear and finally outgamed the tiring Temps d Amour for third. James Bronnenberg made it a double when Donup captured the third race. He came with a brilliant rush on the outside of the field from far back in the stretch and, under a powerful finish, got up in the closing strides. This marked the second success for jockey V. Moore. Society Talk appeared an easy winner when entering the stretch, but at the end was doing her best to save second from the resolutely finishing Uprise. The latter raced prominently for most of the way. Mildred H. stumbled and fell at the far turn, but her rider escaped injury. Ben Keller saddled the winner of the fourth race in Chianti, which marked his fourth success in his last .five starts at local j tracks. The High Time gelding wrested the i lead from Toltec after going half the way and retained a safe margin over his opposition through the stretch. Saving ground entering the stretch, Anne L. raced intaj second place when Toltec and Ellen D. tired. Bright Knot came from far back to head Ellen D. for third in the last few yards. Chianti, which was one of the most successful of the platers that, were in action at Thistle Down, got away to a good start in another meeting when he won the fourth race, at three-quarters of a mile, from some good sprinters. He was given a vigorous ride and, after taking the lead at the far turn, was never headed, although Anne L., after saving some ground coming into the stretch, threatened for .a -while to draw the finish close. She closed fast in second place and along behind her came Bright Knot, which also had plenty of run in him. Ala-mae might have figured somewhat more prominently but for racing wide. Toltec showed some early speed.
