BALDERDASH, away very slowly, was in close quarters on the far turn, improved his position fast near the stretch where he went to the outside and closed fastest of all. VONNIE, hard ridden and quick to get eoing was on the inside in the stretch and held on gamely. GRAND CHAMPION, away fast, was weakly ridden MENDELL was under urging near the end. PLATINUM BLONDE dropped back on the turn, swerved badly in the stretch and was lucky to outlast MAJOR LANPHIER. The latter, taken up at the start, was in the more holding going for half a mile, then went to the outside in the stretch and rallied gamely when shaken up near the end. CICERO showed early speed and was eased up when eliminated. PLUMAGE, probably much the best, worked her way into the lead on the inside, but was impeded by both I PASS and BAY ANGON in the stretch and, taken back and to the inside, closed fast when dear. BAY ANGON showed speed from the start, bore in repeatedly in the stretch, assisting in the crowding back of PLUMAGE and was impeded by I PASS near the end. CHENE closed fast.
