ANOTHER FOR BRADLEY Idle Hour Farm Owner Wins Purse at Belmont Park. Brother Joe Gallops Home in Front of Crap Shooter in Bell Port Purse Track Muddy. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 31 Edward R. Bradley won his first race of the Belmont Park meeting when Brother Joe, the four-year-old son of Black Toney, won the Bell Port Purse today. The sport was conducted over a muddy track and that was a contributing factor in the score. Crap Shooter, from the Anall Stable, earned second place in a close finish with William Woodwards Dominus. - The program was one that was made up of overnight entries, but it was interesting even though the recent rain left the track muddy. The attendance was of good proportions, and there was no lack of enthusiasm The start in the Bell Port Purse was a good one, and Coucci lost little time in sending Brother Joe into command. Brandon Mint raced after him closely and Poppy-man, on the outside, was in third place. Dominus was well lapped on Mrs. Whitneys colt, and both Masked Knight and Martis were well back of these. Coucci permitted Brother Joe to steal away into a lead of a couple of lengths, where he took a snug hold- of his head and simply rated him along in that position for the remainder of the journey to race to the line winner by three lengths. Brandon Mint held second place until well inside the final furlong, where he tired slightly, and Masked Knight had moved up to challenge. The Bostwick colt made a game atempt in the stretch, but it wa3 not long, and he wilted before the finish was reached. In the meantime Crap Shooter, which had been racing last in the early stages, was finding his way through next to the rail. Dominus had also come into the picture; and while Brother Joe was galloping home there was a hard fight for second place. In the final strides Crap Shooter got his nose in front for that part of the purse. MASKED KNIGHT QUITS. Brandon Mint gave way badly to be fourth two lengths back of Dominus, and then came Poppyman, which had also tired after reaching a contending position. Martis ran a dull race, and Masked Knight quit so badly he finished last. Danny Boy was a surprise winner for the Greentree Stable over the short course of the Jimmy Lane Steeplechase. A maiden steeplechaser when he went to the post, he showed an excellent performance through the soft field to run down Citron, from the Northwood Stable, and earn a close decision. Third went to F. Ambrose Clarks Christmas, one that raced on the flat for Joseph E. Widener, a maiden through the field. Continued on twenty-third page. ANOTHER FOR BRADLEY Continited from first page. George Jessel was a close fourth only because Christmas was being eased up by Culleen, and the only other starter was Sar-daneza, which was being pulled up far back of the company. William Woodwards "Moiras Chief proved himself a worthy son of Wrack, notable for giving mud runners to the turf, when he won in the opening four and a half furlongs dash through the Widener course. The colt was far back in the early racing but splashed his way to victory by a. rush through the final furlong. Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Blue Foam finished second and Forceful carried the silks of the Miami Stable into third place before Dessner. CABOCHON LEFT AT POST. Cabochon bolted as the barrier rose and was left at the post while Interruption was particularly alert and was rushed into a clear lead. Blue Foam went after the Widener filly and Dessner was running third, but well back of the leaders. Interruption held to her lead until inside the final furlong where she tired badly and it left Blue Foam to show the way. In the meantime Malley was coming through the bunch with Moiras- Chief and fairly running over horses. Right at the end he wore them down to beat Blue Foam a half length. Forceful also finished strongly to be at the heels of the Bubbling Over filly and he had beaten Dessner a length. A great finish marked the running of the six furlong dash through the Widener course that was the third offering. It was for platers of the better quality and Seb, after forcing all the pace, barely won by a nose from Ha Ha, that raced Mrs. Albert J. Contento. Far back of the battling pair Helios, from the Anall Stable, beat Orphean for third. Seb, breaking in motion, dominated all the running and in the early racing he drew out slightly. Then as the final furlong was approached Ha Ha closed up under a drive. Knessi did not take the challenge seriously until Ha Ha was alongside his mount. Then he went to a hard drive himself and just managed to earn a decision by inches. This final duel took the leading pair out six lengths before Helios, one that had weakened slightly after showing a flash of early speed. Sylvio Coucci rode his second winner of the day when he followed up his score on Brother Joe by galloping home with Nights End, an unsexed juvenile son of Bunting and Soumangha that was starting for the first time. It was a four and a half furlongs dash through the Widener course for maiden two-year-olds and Nights End was so much the best that he won by six lengths. Second place fell to Mrs. John H. Whitneys Airy Spirit, that has had some education, and William B. Millers Karonite beat the Dorwood Stables Richard for third. The only other starter was Chance Flight which raced for the Log Cabin Stud Stable. He performed as though the going was a handicap and was always far back of the contention. Brandon Rose, racing for the Brandon Farm, accounted for the final race of the day and scored the first victory of the local season for that establishment. Brandon Rose was ridden by Robertson and followed the pace under steady restraint. Turning for home the winner disposed of Truett Junior, which had been used up racing Slewfoot into defeat, and at the finish had a big margin over Corvine, while Sun Shadow was third.
