FIGURISTE DEFEATS ELLICE Leads Throughout to Win Hollenden Hotel Purse at Bainbridge. All Forlorn Captures Third Straight and Holds Perfect Record on Ohio Track Morprin Scores. GEAUGA LAKE, Ohio, May 31. Figur-iste, a three-year-old filly which raced with considerable success during the winter, defeated a good field of older horses today in the running of the Hollenden Hotel Purse, which featured one of the best week-day cards that has been presented at Bainbridge Park. With the track now at its best, Bainbridge racing is showing marked improvement and todays sport was witnessed by an appreciative crowd which was quite large considering that the preceding day was a holiday. A cool breeze swept the course, making top coats a necessity for comfort. The Hollenden Purse witnessed the defeat of Ellice, a good sprinting mare which won her first start of the year last week. She finished second to Figuriste, and Knowlton was third. Figuriste had the speed of the party throughout and increased her lead in the last eighth, finishing the three-quarters in 1:12 flat. Ellice ran well and, saving ground in the stretch, had enough left to outstay Knowlton, which finished fast though bearing out somewhat in the stretch run. Thistle Ann also closed fast after stumbling early in the race. A keen stretch struggle developed with the running of the initial dash, during which Wrench and Flagg Porter raced closely lapped. In the last few yards Flagg Porter, under keen urging, proved the gamer and scored by a half length. After suffering early interference, Heads Up raced into third, place nearing the turn for home and easily disposed of the others for the minor offering. All Forlorn, a three-year-old filly by Menifee Sekina, running in the colors of Jewell Brothers, made it three straight and continued her perfect record on the Bainbridge track by taking the second race, and she did it so easily as to entitle her to recognition as one of the best of her age now racing in Ohio. The race was run in 1:12, and All Forlorns margin was four lengths. Among those she defeated were several recent winners, including Parade Step, Dusky Dame and Fountain. Dusky Dame, a winner during the Sportsmans Park meeting, was making her first start here, and she went well after delaying the start by her bad post behavior, but she did not have enough speed to threaten All Forlorn. Parade Step finished well in third place, and Sweet Lassie also ran a good race. Fountain-tired. It was only after a thrilling stretch drive that Harry Hieover lasted to earn the verdict over Twill and Monkey Shine in the third race, although he led at all stages. Twill closed very fast on the inside through the stretch, while Monkey Shine was forced to worked his way up on the outside, and he finished going fastest of all. Coral Beach and Social Climber, early contenders, weakened during the final test. Displaying the most speed from the start, Morprin was never in serious trouble during the running of the fourth race for juveniles. Jockey Willie Pool had the mount and the filly, ruled the public choice. Resubmission closed stoutly on the outside through the stretch to secure the second award. My Letitia finished fast. Lusty tired rapidly after having forced the early pace and Jere was not persevered with during the stretch run after having shown early speed.
