1 SARATOGA TURF NOTES 4 e Johnny Shelepts, former rider and now jockeys agent, is the father of a seven-pound girl, born at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica. Latest reports are that the young lady is doing nicely. The John Sanford colors were shown for the first time this season in the second race. Dave Withers has taken over the engagement book of jockey F. Springer, under contract to the Calumet Stable. C. J. FitzGerald, presiding steward at Arlington Park, arrived for the opening. Charley Kaelker, well-known Philadel-phian, joined the ranks of the clubhouse commissioners. Jack Whyte, with a division of the W. S. . Kilmer stable, arrived from Chicago. The post positions will be drawn thirty : minutes before each race. This is a departure : from the accepted practice here. The Brookmeade Stable, whicli as in the limelight during the recent Arlington Park meeting, has -fourteen yearlings in Virginia, according to trainer Bob Smith. Seven colts and a like number of fillies, home-breds, will be picked up and given Iheir preliminary racing education in the near future. Mrs. Philip Igleheart, the former Mary Corning, will race her stable under her marriage name starting tomorrow. Bob Gailor arrived from Chicago and will remain for the meeting. Trainer Matt Brady stated that Mrs. James Austins Mr. Khayyam and Good Advice will be started here on August 11. and then shipped to Hawthorne to fulfill their engagements in the Hawthorne Gold Cup. Joseph E. Widener will not return from his annual European trip until the latter part of this month. - Caesars Ghost, the three-year-olds son of Pompey and Bourbon Girl, which races for Mrs. Dodge Sloanes Brookmeade Stable, has been going along nicely. He worked a mile and a furlong this morning in 1:58. This fellow is in the Saratoga Handicap at 102 pounds and is looked upon as a sure starter. Others that have been training well for the mile ;nd a quarter prize are Airs. F. Ambrose Clarks Neverfade, the Anall Stables Cuban Grand National winner Lar-1 ranaga, Joseph E. Wideners three-year-old Golden Way, handicapped at 112 pounds. W. R. Coes Osculator is another that has been training well for the Saturday prize and he is another that is in well with only 110 pounds. Jack McMahon, former Notre Dame football star, who landscaped Rockingham Park, was an arrival to inspect Saratoga. Fred Barlow, following a lengthy vacation, joined the ranks of the handicappers here for the remainder of the meeting. Pete Bostwick and Rigan McKinney returned to the saddle, following a long ab-. sence due to injuries. 4
