I HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES $ W. R. "Russ" Padgett, is a visitor. Prometheus, which accounted for three races under Mrs. Padgetts colors at Rockingham Park, is here in charge of Tom Flippen. Roy Dickerson, well-known starter whose work at the barrier was one of the features of the recent Arlington Park meeting, was out for the day. Dickerson may be engaged to send the fields away during the twenty-five day meeting at Detroit. Jockey Karl Horvath, who reported to Clyde Van Dusen here Monday, will accept mounts during the remainder of the Hawthorne meeting. No further attempt to train Upright will be made, according to A. A. Baroni, owner of the five-year-old son of Baby Grand and Roxana, which broke down in his race yesterday. Baroni hopes to dispose of the horse to the Remount Service. E. Brasfield, apprentice, today began a suspension of ten days for rough riding, while astride Wingate in the fourth race Wednesday. It was the first suspension of the meeting. O. Kobart, an apprentice who rode his first winner at Tanforan several weeks ago, is reporting to Paul Kelley and will ride here the remainder of the season. The steady improvement which has marked the riding of apprentice Jimmie Lowry, has not escaped the notice of many horsemen and they see a bright future for the Dayton, Washington lad. Lowry is under contract to E. Drillon and rode his first winning race astride Dunes at Tanforan on April 5, last. He was seen on eight winners at the recent Arlington Park meeting. Charles Longo is making his engagements. A mild illness kept Harry Unna in his apartment today and in his absence O. L. Foster saddled the A. Bartelstein starters.
