SARANAC HANDICAP TODAY Thirteen Entered in Fridays ,000 Feature at Saratoga Springs. War Glory the Top Weight With 125 Pounds Mr. Khayyam, Good Advice, The Darb Sarada and Other Stars to Contest. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y., Aug. 10. Thirteen acceped weights for the Saranac Handicap,, the feature offering of the Saratoga Association for its sport tomorrow. This is a gallop of a mile for the three-year-olds and it carries a guaranteed value of ,000. First run in 1901, it has invariably been won by a good horse and the entries for this renewal promise a thoroughly representative field. Samuel D. Riddles Dwyer winner, War Glory, is at the top of the handicap with a burden of 125 pounds and next in order is Mr. Khayyam, winner of the American Derby for the Catawba Stable. This fellow has Good Advice for a running mate and he is well up in the weights with 122 pounds as his burden. C. V. Whitneys The Darb is under 122 pounds, and Frederick A. Griffiths Sarada is rated just two pounds below the son of St. Germans. Lee Rosenbergs Kerry Patch, Winner of the Futurity of last year, is at the . ame notch and the others scale all the way down to 106 pounds, the assignment for William Ziegler, Jr.s Keep Out. Besides the Catawba Farm pair Mr. Ziegler promises to have two in the field with the greatly improved Puchero as a running mate with Keep Out Then Willis Sharpe Kilmer is represented by two in Dark Winter and Sun Archer. H. C. Phipps has De Valera as his standard bearer, Pomponius will race for W. R. Coe and "Bob" Smith will saddle Okapi for Mrs. Dodge Sloanes Brookmeade Stable. Each of the candidates named has been training nicely for the Saranac, and this morning Good Advice demonstrated he has all his foot when he went along for a handy five furlongs in 1:01. Okapi went a half in :48, to sharpen up his speed and Dark Winter went along for five furlongs in 1:02. Sun Archer went with his stablemate and they were together all the way. War Glory had an easy half in :51. The others had completed training for the prize and it is expected that with fair weather and a fast track all thirteen will be seen under silks. Should there be a muddy track, which is not expected, Mr. Khayyam will be an absentee, and there undoubtedly will be other withdrawals. The Saranac is of double importance for the reason that most eligibles were also nominated for the famous old Kenner Stakes, to be run next Tuesday. The running tomorrow will afford some line on Kenner possibilities though the more important prize is over the mile and three-sixteenths distance. Besides the Saranac Handicap, there is a secondary feature that promises well in a mile condition race for fillies and mares. It will bring together Tambour, Speed Boat, Kincsen, Notebook and Sweet Scent and should furnish an excellent contest.
