ADA WAN BEATS SECULAR Outsider First in Colonial Purse Main Offering of Saturdays Pro ¬ gram at Hagerstown HAGERSTOWN Md May 19 Before an excellent turnout the Colonial Hotel Purse a sprint of about five furlongs was con ¬ tested as todays feature offering at Hagers ¬ town The winner turned up in an outsider Ada Wan which had a length and a half before Secular as the finish line was crossed In the third place a head farther back was Wise Mollie the favorite Following the race a handsome trophy was presented to trainer H L Smith by James Kolioupulos Kolioupuloseneral eneral manager of the Colonial Hotel HotelThe The victory of Ada Wan was a frontrun ¬ ning one Immediately after the start she was hustled into the lead and when clear was steadied along in front In the early running it was Noajoyce that forced the pace with Wise Mollie next in line before Secular On the back stretch Ada Wan in ¬ creased her lead and Noajoyce dropped out of the running Wise Mollie made a bid for supremacy at the head of the stretch but the winner had something left and although hard urged she was able to stall off the challenge Meanwhile Secular showed a burst of speed on the rail and wore down the tiring Wise Mollie The winner was rid ¬ den by jockey S Palumbo and her success was the second of the day for that rider who also had piloted Coventry Queen in the second race
