PLATERS DAY AT CONNAUGHT Airway Cousin George and Harlem HarlemFurnish Furnish Thrill iri Best Race on onAfternoons Afternoons Program OTTAWA Ontf June 21 A card entirely given over to the members of the claiming ranks furnished the program for the sec ¬ ond day of the first meeting of seven days of the Connaught Park Jockey Club The nearest approach to a feature was a mile affair for threeyearolds and over and was run as the fifth race It was named the Province of Quebec Racing Association Claiming Purse and brought out a field of seven and produced the most thrilling finish of the meeting when H L Sauers Airway Mrs W H Denhams Cousin George and A L Taylors Harlem finished heads apart at the end of the mile Dark Altos was in fourth place ten lengths to the rear of the leading trio Ridden by K Horvath who put up a brilliant exhibition in bringing Air ¬ way from third place in the stretch on the inside to outlast Cousin George in the final strides the three fought it out all through the final furlong and the winner was doubt ¬ ful until the final strides stridesThere There was a delay at the start of four minutes caused by the unruly actions of Forceful and Soultan Girl The latter was brought to the start with blinkers but starter Richey ordered them removed and the filly stood perfectly still afterwards afterwardsA A good crowd was in attendance but the track was heavy and very cuppy but drying out fast Chile Gold scored a frontrunning victory in the third when he defeated Squeaky by half a length with Bold Robin in third place Ridden by the veteran L Laurin Chile Gold was away forwardly raced Second Story into defeat in the opening half mile withstood repeated bids from Bold Robin and Golidian in the stretch run and outlasted Squeaky at the finish Squeaky raced forwardly throughout came to the outside for the stretch run and was wearing the winner down in the final strides Bold Robin moved through on the inside entering the stretch found difficulty in getting through and was tiring at the end endLogwood Logwood racing for G Foissy accounted for his first purse of the year when he hand ¬ ily defeated Wee Toddler II in the fourth race fashioned for Canadianbreds over the threequarter mile distance Sweepvale raced to third position four lengths behind Wee Toddler II and a half length in advance of Fatal Gift GiftFrom From a good start Wee Toddler II was the one to draw clear followed by Don Sweep and Logwood rounding the turn Wee Toddler II still held sway with Logwood cutting down her margin After straighten ¬ ing away for the stretch run Gibson sent Logwood to the pacemaker and was draw ¬ ing clear as the finish was reached Wee Toddler II hung on well Sweepvale saved ground all the way moved into third place rounding the turn and outlasted Fatal Gift in the stretch drive driveB B Russell saddled his first winner of the meeting in the sixth when Air King had little difficulty in defeating Chiefs Trouba ¬ dour Hasola and three other platers over the mile and seventy yards route routeRidden Ridden by H Peake Air King was re ¬ strained off the pace for the opening half mile moved up with a rush after leaving the back stretch to take the lead approaching the quarter pole and drew away in the stretch run to win with speed in reserve Chiefs Troubador raced forwardly through ¬ out began dropping back nearing the lower turn but came again in the stretch run to catch Hasola The latter weakened in the final drive but easily held third position
