MOROCCO IN GAME FINISH Outstays Blind Hills by Head to Take Fairmount Feature Original HeadlineV Cancelled When Pat C Runs Away Warm Weather Fails Failsto to Deter Fans t COLLINSVILLE 111 June 21 After sched ¬ uling the best race of the week at Fair1 mount Park which attracted such good sprinters as Annarita Overshoes Fayette Prince Malolo and Pat C racing secretary R A Leigh was forced to abandon the race which was to bring the above horses to ¬ gether Avhen Pat C got away from his exer ¬ cise boy this morning and ran away three miles A substitute race at one mile and an eighth was run instead of the sprint The new race embraced Mary McCarthy a dou ¬ ble winner at the meeting at handsome odds on each occasion Miss Upset winner of the seventh race Wednesday and Skibo and Paraloma also winners The remainder of the field included Our Johnny My Char ¬ lotte Blind Hills Truxton and Morocco MoroccoThe The contest resulted in a driving finish when Morocco E Robinowitz aged nine yearold defeated Blind Hills another aged gelding by a neck Mary McCarthy was third thirdThe The weather though hot again failed to keep the attendance down downThe The first race contested over the mile distance engaging older platers resulted in one of the fastest run races at that distance in several years when Sun Worship was an easy winner over Our Sandy with Abe Furst third The winner covered the dis ¬ tance in 138 onefifth of a second off the track record The winner outsped his field from the be ¬ ginning Mel Knight who had the mount on the W E Turner veteran stole a length lead going around the turn and opened up his advantage to three lengths going down the long back stretch He maintained this margin from the halfmile pole to the fin ¬ ish with Our Sandy second throughout Nanny D tired badly in the last furlong and Abe Furst got up in the final stages to dis ¬ place lengthA her for the show by half a length A minor accident occured during the run ¬ ning of the first race when Roberta L stumbled and threw her rider P Martinez The boy was shaken up and forced to cancel his remaining mounts mountsThe The second straight favorite went down to defeat when Raffjes Problem was a sur ¬ prise winner over Baby Sweep oddson choice in the second race over four and a half furlongs Clamp was a tiring third The winner outpaced his opponents in the early stages but Baby Sweep after beginning slowly passed the Old Gold Stable racer easily after turning into the stretch with the winner dropping back and Clamp mov ¬ ing up fast on the leader In the straight ¬ away Baby Sweep began to tire rapidly and coming with a great rush under strong rid ¬ ing by J Dyer Raffles Problem passed the tiring Clamp and got up in the final strides to earn a head verdict Baby Sweep was two lengths before Clamp at the finish finishA A change in riders from M Griffin to H Manifold helped Battling Knight which races for W A Mikel to earn brackets in the third race at five and a half furlongs Rose lake saved second place with the tiring Alamae third thirdIn In winning his third race of the year the winner followed Alamae for threequarters of the way without effort and when well in the stretch came away to win by little more than a length with Manifold having a good hold of the Mikel horse Roselake came past Alamae in the last few strides to gain the place award by threequarters of a length Battling Knight was the first win ¬ ning favorite to earn brackets paying little better than even money The fourth race at six furlongs a claim ¬ ing affair in which seven sprinters met and the best offered on the sevenrace card developed in a driving finish when F Serem bas consistent Anne L was winner over Gulfelano by a short length with Gulfelano having threequarters of a length advantage over Lucky Prospero The latter just lasted to earn a nose verdict for third place from George Maypole MaypoleLucky Lucky Prospero was nicely rated on top with Toltec racing a head behind the leader for threequarters of the way With Anne L being saved in third place F A Smith rode a confident race In the stretch run Anne L began to move up to the leaders and coming to the outside of Lucky Prospero and Toltec in the drive had to be hard urged to main ¬ tain her advantage to stall off the rush of Gulfelano George Maypole might have been much closer with a better judged ride His rider had him on the outside for half a mile and entering the stretch tried to come through on the rail and was shut off re ¬ peatedly from the eighth post to the finish
