C V WHITNEY TRIPLE Brabble Sassafras and Synod Win at Detroit Fair Grounds Trio of Races on Par as Feature At tractions Favorites Have Ex ceptionally Good Day j DETROIT Mich June 21 Three races shared leading honors at Detroit this after ¬ noon and although the sixth race labeled the Allen Park was the only one of the trio not carrying the claiming clause well matched fields started in the other events Despite overcast skies during the morning the sun came through for the sport which consisted of an eightrace program The rack was at its best and the crowd was in keeping with those of other days daysSeyen Seyen of the better grade from the claim ¬ ing ranks raced six furlongs in the fourth race and this enabled C V Whitney to send out his second winner of the afternoon when his Sassafras got up to beat the light ¬ ly regarded Tug o War from the J N Crof ton stable by threequarters of a length W F Blacks speedy Ep which showed the way for a half mile was third a length back of Tug o War and a head before the fastfinishing Our Count j jAfter After his hard struggle which found him drawing away at the finish Sassafras came back lame in his left fore leg and hobbled off the track trackWhile While Ep and Biff showed the speed of the party for a half mile the winner which was ridden by George Rose was forced to come outside his opponents in reaching a contending position After Tug o War had subdued the tiring Ep Rose drove the Whitney threeyearold to the front At the end of the half mile Biff was caught in close quarters and tired gradually as the leaders made their final charge Sassafras third favorite of the afternoon to score ran the distance in 112 112SYNOD SYNOD BATHER LUCKY I IJack Jack Healey sent another winner to the post for C V Whitney when Synod was lucky in scoring a driving victory over Cur ran Pearces Lady Flinders Mrs J Mc Graws Piping Hot and three other two yearolds in the fifth race raceAlfred Alfred Robertson who started the Whit ¬ ney triple with Brabble was astride the winner and saving him back of the pace of Lady Flinders and the well backed Heros Lady in the run to the stretch was bene ¬ fited when Lady Flinders bore out badly and carried Piping Hot with her While the victor disposed of Heros Lady with ease he was ridden out in holding his twolength advantage to the end Lady Flinders had the same advantage over Piping Hot which beat Scrambled Eggs by an equal margin for the minor award awardWilliam William T Waggoner Sons Three Ds Stock Farm Stable furnished its first win ner of the meeting when its Strideaway got up to beat Noahs Pride at the end of the Allen Park Purse which served as the sixth sixthand and feature At the end of the mile and a sixteenth Strideaway was threequarters of a length before Noahs Pride which beat Red Roamer slightly more than a length for second secondAlbert Albert Beck who was accepting his first mount of the meeting saved the winner back of the pace of Pre War Noahs Pride and Red Roamer to the final furlong and driving Strideaway down on the outside bested Noahs Pride in the late stages REGRETS DAUGHTER WINS Brabble a daughter of Mad Hatter and the immortal Regret left the twoyearold twoyearoldmaiden maiden ranks under the colors of C V Whit ney when Alfred Robertson drove her through on the inside to beat Julia Grant a length Miss Toro was third and but for being carried wide by Julia Grant at the thestretch stretch turn probably would have made the contest more interesting The winner and favorite was the first in motion but Julia Grant and Shady Past outran her to the far turn Miss Toro was forced to go to the outside in improving her position At the last bend Julia Grant bore out badly taking Miss Toro with her and this gave the winner room on the rail Midway of the stretch Brabble headed Julia Grant and drew away to her clear margin at the finish Despite her adverse luck Miss Toro closed with a terrific rush and Julia Grant only beat her a head for the easy victory over nine other platers that contested the threequarters sec ¬ ond race Lee Gold lightly regarded was third Although L Dronet was forced to use light pressure in disposing of Princeton the winner drew away rapidly after five eighths and the finish found him three lengths before Princeton which beat Lee Gold a length After enjoying third position throughout Lee Gold which raced on the outside was strongly urged in beating Vol Volwood wood a nose for the minor award A nose decided the third race when Cor ¬ nelia Powell got up to beat the favoured March King for the major portion of the third race Maetico a close second choice to March King was third While Double Nugget and March King raced on even terms f or threeeighths the I winner was forced to work her way forward j and after saving ground in the stretch she gradually wore down March King which disposed of Double Nugget after a half mile j Maetico raced on the inside throughout Despite winning her last start Cornelia Powell was lightly regarded and paid 4140 for each 2 investment
