Louisville second annual one-day charity race meeting,; held Monday at Churchill Downs, was, iii spite of a steady downpour of rain accom panied by chilling winds and treacherous racing conditions, a surprising success. Ac cording to figures just made public, Mondays benefit netted an amount equal to what was raised last year under favorable weather and racing conditions. Approximately 7,000 was realized for the community chest, according to unofficial figures,; The net realized from betting, admission charges and program sales at the track Monday was approximately 1,000 with an additional ,000 to ,000 from tickets sold away from the track. A total of 07,495 passed through th pari-mutuel machines Monday, while on the same day a year ago the handle amounted to 07,967. Mondays gate receipts at the track were slightly less than in 1934. Considering a greater expense in staging the program and the disagreeable weather, Mondays benefit was more of a success than the first of the one-day meets whicU are to be held annually. James W. Henning, chairman of the arj rangements committee for the Junior Board of Trade, sponsor of the event, expressed gratification when he learned of the extent of the receipts. He said that it was almost unbelievable that the people of Louisville would make such a success of the benefit under such weather conditions. As a more extensive effort was made tg sell tickets in advance and a large number, of firms purchased tickets for employees receipts from the sale of admission tickets were approximately the same as last year. - A
