1 AURORA TURF NOTES O Col. R. S. Maestri of New Orleans, a recent appointee to the office of conservation commissioner, is an arrival and will remain here to witness the Derby. Irwin Poche, physical director of the New Orleans Athletic Club, and Earl Long, brother of the Louisiana senator, accompanied Maestri on the trip. The Orleanians are stopping at the Congress Hotel. Trainer Elmer Johnson plans on leaving here Thursday for Detroit, where he will campaign Eveline F., Scout Chief, Kentucky Moon and Pop, which race for Mrs, K. ONeal. C. E. Simmons, owner of Alkali and Jere, is confined to his apartment with a mild attack of the "flu." Dark Woman was the only Derby candidate to test her speed over the Aurora course Wednesday morning, when former jockey Willie Hinphy sent her a slow mile, which she negotiated in an impressive manner, the fractional time being :26, :52, 1:17, and the" mile in 1:44. C. "Rufe" Allen, father of Marion and Henry Allen, who maintain a rather extensive stable, stopped off en route to Detroit, where the eight horses they will race at the Fair Grounds were sent after the recent Fair Park meeting. The string is comprised of the following Black Flash, Aurebon, Miss Spectral, Nights End, Mad Bull, Reverberate, Eva B. and Col. Hatfield. The elder Allen will remain until Thursday night. Jess Cook, well-known Texas horseman who died last summer, was a great admirer of the mare Bride o the Wind, and was the one that advised the Allen boys that the speedy daughter of Danger Rock and Cynthiana, would prove a valuable matron. In memory of the deceased horseman, the beautiful floral wreath which was presented as a token of victory to Brides Delight, daughter of Bride o the Wind, was placed on Cooks grave by Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Cook. One of the most important sales transacted at Aurora this year, was consummated Wednesday morning when Bennet Creech, representing Mrs. A. M. Creech, purchased the three-year-old filly Our Mae, from E. K. Bryson. It is reported that Creech parted with ,000 for the daughter of Our General. C. E. Davison, who shipped his stable to Washington Park, from Dallas, came over from Homewood for Wednesdays racing. Jockey G. Woolf has been engaged to ride the Milky Way Farms Wiiiskolo, In the -Illinois Derby,
