Gay Sympathy Leads Stablemate, Sally Ful- 1 ler, to Finish of Old Woodbine Park Feature. f TORONTO, Ont, May 22. Edward F. Seagram, scion of Canadas leading turf c dynasty, completed the famous double when v his maiden three-year-old filly Gay Sym- t pathy capped Sally Fullers triumph in the s Kings Plate with a galloping victory in the n thirty-eighth renewal of the Breeders v Stakes, the mile and a sixteenth feature of p colorful afternoon of racing at Woodbine s today. Sally Fuller, picking up thirteen h pounds off her plate success and carrying o top weight of 120 pounds, was an easy sec- i: ond to give the black jacket and canary d sash a one-two count in the second of the r major tests for Canadian-bred three-year- a olds. Joseph Cattarinichs Pestle, bearing c Quebecs hopes, was third in the small field i of six. Following Sally Fullers Kings Plate vie- . tory and Gay Sympathys promising third in I the same event, the Seagram pair was held f an even money favorite with the large mid- i week crowd, which braved the brisk, spring t weather. The Seagram coffers were bolstered by Gay Sympathys first money of ,630 and Sally Fullers place award of 00. The time for the race was 1:49 over a fast c track. t Favored by a feather impost of 107 pounds, the light weight of the field, Gay i Sympathy accomplished her task with ease, c Apprentice H. Lindberg, the riding sensa- tion of the meeting, rode her with superb j confidence, allowing the daughter of Solace to settle into her stride back of the others for a quarter mile. He then took her to the outside and when he loosed the restraint i leaving the back stretch his mount spurted j to the front. From the quarter post it was 1 just a gallop for her and at the end she was two and a half lengths in advance of her stablemate. Sally Fuller was never fully extended to take second place, despite her impost. She i was closer up in the early stages than Gay 1 Sympathy, and when the latter drew away she followed, leaving Pestle six lengths back i in third place at the end. Pestle displayed t a fine turn of early speed for five furlongs, 1 but was no match for the Seagram pair at J the end. Tax Free raced evenly, had no excuses and was never a serious threat. 1 Maranot and Sticknot, two home-breds from J. E. Smallmans London, Ontario, ! establishment, finished first and second, respectively, in the first race, a four and a helf furlongs dash for maiden two-year-olds foaled in Canada. Miss K. C. Pristies Bag-amac was third in the field of seven. i Maranot broke alertly and was placed within striking distance of Bagamac, the ! early leader. Once straightened out in the j front stretch, the Not Much filly moved up sharply to overhaul the leader, and was ; under mild urging to hold her stablemate at bay. Sticknot was asked to make up considerable ground in the last two fur- . longs, and did so willingly.. Bagamac was : tiring at the end. J. C. Fletcher won his first race of the campaign when his Momiji, a four-year-old daughter of Ruskin and Rock On, defeated eleven other Canadian-breds over the six furlongs of the second race. Romola, the favorite, was second half a length back of the winner, and a length -in advance of Gaffing, the early leader. Pewter Crest closed resolutely for the fourth award.
