FAIR PARK OFFICERS PLEASED Mutuel Play Increased Despite Drop in Attendance Due to Continuous Bad Weather. DALLAS, Texas, May 22 Popularity of the Fair Park race course here has been thoroughly demonstrated , in the mind of Julius G. Reeder, general manager of the track, which despite fifteen days of rain out of twenty-one racing days, has just closed its most successful meeting. Attendance figures dropped from the fall meeting, but mutuel play increased. This was due to the fact that purse distribution was increased by 0,000, which brought the best grade of horses yet to campaign at the Fair Park track to the spring race meeting. The class of horses at the track is best shown by the percentage of favorites winning here. Out of the 168 races, favorites finished third or better in 129 of the races, for a total percentage of favorite wins of 44 per cent. "Weather caused the decrease in our attendance," judge Reeder said, "but the better class of horses which campaigned here this spring brought about the increase in mutuel play. We expected to increase the purse distribution again at the fall meeting and have an even better grade of horses racing here than was seen in action during the meeting just, closed. The meeting has been very successful, and horsemen, operators and patrons are well pleased with the outcome."
