STARE had good speed, but tired after racing three-quartrs. WAYWARD SON stumbled at the start, was placed under punishment after reaching the back stretch and was never able to reach the leaders. FLOWERY LADY, in closest attendance of the winner practically the entire journey, closed gamely on the inside in the drive and just missed. MILD, usually slow to begin, continued stoutly on the inside to the stretch. FLAXEN made up some ground. BOOCAP was unable to enter into serious contention. CHAIN had good speed for three-quarters. GUIDING LIGHT took command straightening out on the back stretch, was steadied along in front and, hard ridden through the stretch, held GENERAL LEJEUNE safe. The latter, restrained early, moved up stoutly after rounding the far turn, made a determined effort to get to the winner, but was not good enough. SALUT DAMOUR, well up for the first half mile and under slight restraint, was unable to improve his position when placed under punishment. SARSITA moved up gamely on the inside nearing the stretch and closed gamely. AIR LINE had brief early speed.
