MALMAISON, away fast from his outside post position, was hustled to the front, steadied around the turn and withstood a long drive gamely. RED FLYER, under restraint when unable to get through for a quarter, came between horses in the stretch, finished fast under urging and was rapidly overtaking the winner. HAT CHECK, on the outside throughout, worked his way forward slowly under urging. TIME LIGHT followed the early pace closely, saved ground throughout, but faltered. OPENING NIGHT lacked early speed, but finished well when too late. CANROCK was slow to get going. KAl HARRI tired. Overweight Hat Check, 3 pounds. SECOND RACE 7-8 MILE Out of Chute. CHIEF PILOT, slow to reach his stride, moved up steadily under hustling tactics on the outside rounding the turn, drew out rapidly after assuming command and was in hand at the finish. TRANSPOSE gained rapidly on the outside after a quarter mile, held his position under urging, but was no match for the winner. MAREVE battled determinedly for the early lead and, though tiring through the stretch, was best of the others. JOLYON trailed for five-eighths and finished with a rush on the outside. GIBBYS CHOICE had no mishaps. WHIZZ JAMES, under urging set the pace, to the stretch, but tired badly. BARBARA CAROM .quit aiter a half mile and was cased nearing the finish. DORIS B., under restraint in the early stages while in close pursuit of the pace, was taken to the inside rounding the turn, slipped through along the rail when the leaders swung wide and, drawing away quickly, was lightly urged to the finish. MR. SPONGE, showing improved form, forced the" early pace under slight restraint and held on well under punishment. PETER DIXON lacked early speed and closed with a rush when able to come between horses and just missed getting the place. UNCLE LESS, under mild urging to keep up, was unable to find racing room at the final turn and made up some ground when clear. .DR.. FREELAND faltered after showing good early speed. EP, displaying good speed from the beginning, was rated along steadily and Just lasted under strong urging. MARTIN BARTON, probably best, was in close pursuit of the early pace for three-eighths, moved up steadily, was interfered with .slightly by GAMALIEL when the latter swerved at the quarter post and, gaining fast on the inside of the winner, just failed to got up and worked out a mile in 1:413, driving. CAPTAIN RED was hustled along to gain a contending position, came over slightly on the turn, forcing back GAMALIEL, but tired nearing the end. GOOD CHEER was slow to reach his stride, lost ground when making his run, but finished well. SNAPLOCK tired. GAMALIEL, pinched back on the turn, swerved when punished, and tired.
