TEAKWOOD improved, his position steadily when called upon and finished gamely. NATIONAL ANTHEM was under restraint in the early running, moved up when called upon, but could not menace the leaders. TANARINGO was permitted to drop out of contention in the early part, was outrun and pulled up lame. SILVERSKIN showed early speed, but bobbled at the fourth fence and quit when placed under pressure. GREY PHANTOM was outrun. EARNINGS fell at the ninth fence. Overweight National Anthem, 1 pound. THIRD RACE 5-8 MULE Widener Course. MANTAGNA, fractious at the post, was fated along under steady restraint, came to the outside of the leaders entering the stretch, finished fast and was drawing away at the end. EXHIBIT forced the early pace, disposed of PLAT EYE and held on well. NAUTCH, well up on the outside of the leaders, had no mishaps. ARIEL CROSS was shuffled back on the back stretch and finished with a rush. BLACK GIFT came to the outside in the stretch and finished-fast. PLAT EYE had early speed. ESPOSA dropped back.
