OMAHAS FINAL TRIAL j FOR BELMONT STAKES L j NEW YORK, N. Y., June 4. Omaha, winner of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and second in the Withers, was given a stiff mile and one-half workout for his engagement in the Belmont Stakes, which will be run on Saturday; the closing day of the Westchester Racing Association meeting at Belmont Park. Ridden by "Smoky" Saunders, who will guide him in the running of the valuable three-year-old fixture, Omaha with plenty of weight up was timed the full distance in 2:35, with speed in reserve. Trainer Fitzsimmons, who supervised the work, was pleased with the manner in which the tall son of Gallant Fox performed in his trial. The colt came out of the move showing no ill effects, and when led back to his stall was playful. Thruster was the one that was called upon to accompany the Derby winner in his trial, and he ran along for the first seven furlongs, which was covered in 1:28. The two raced along on even terms the first part and were timed the first four furlongs in :494, the six furlongs in 1:15, and the seven furlongs in 1:28. It was here that Thruster dropped back, and then Omaha continued on alone. He negotiated the mile in 1:42, and the mile and a furlong in 1:54. He was under snug restraint at this point, and the ten furlongs were caught in 2:19. At thi3 point Saunders reached down and took a stouter hold of his horse, and the full Belmont Stakes route was covered in 2:35.
