PARA FOUR, unable to improve its early position, under good urging closed with a rush. LESTER P., a strong factor from the start, weakened after improving his position in the stretch. OSCILLATION, forced to lose ground early, was steered through the field for the drive, and tired in the last eighth. PATCHEYE was never a factor. SERGEANT D. and POTTERTON quit. COLONEL ED, away slowest of all, saved ground when improving his position, was steered to the outside of the leaders during the final eighth and wore THE PELICAN down in the last few strides. THE PELICAN, going in his -best form and forging to the front after five sixteenths, was unable -to draw clear, gave way to HEART BREAK in the last eighth, came again when put "to strong" pressure, but failed to withstand the winner. HEART BREAK took command under hustling tactics, gave way when challenged, again reached the lead in the last eighth, but weakened at the end. SALAAM, forced to lose ground when racing forwardly, closed with a rush. WHISKING, a strong factor from the start, was shuffled back when, THE PELICAN took command, but came again wiien clear.
