CYNOSURE OF ALL EYES Wood Memorial Attracting Attention of Entire Turf World. Great Field of Kentucky Derby Eli-gibles Among Expected Starters in Jamaicas Feature. JAMAICA, N. Y., April 22. As the date for the running of the Wood Memorial approaches it is next Saturdays feature of the Metropolitan Jockey Club at Jamaica there is a decidedly better promise of it being one of the best renewals of the stake. At one mile and seventy yards, for three-year-olds and with 0,000 added, it has abundant interest of its own, but there is the added interest in the fact that most of those that will be s-aen under silks will journey to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby on the following Saturday. The Wood Memorial is an ideal final for the Kentucky classic, and two of its winners Gallant Fox, in 1930, and Twenty Grand, in 1931 went on to win the Derby. This year a son of Gallant Fox Granville will probably be the favorite for the Wood, and he may readily duplicate the victory of his illustrious sire. Granville qualified magnificently in his winning effort of Tuesday over the Wood distance and he is only one of possibly four that James Fitzsimmons will sand to the post. Merry Fete, which also races for Mr. Woodward, may be a starter, as well as Seabiscuit and Teufel, which performs for the Wheatley Stable. Teufel is a maiden that raced creditably In the Chesapeake at Havre de Grace and, being a maiden, he is in the Wood under 112 pounds, in which each other starter under the conditions will take up 117 pounds. Teufel ran a handy mile in 1:42 at Aque-"duct this morning. C. V. Whitneys Bright Plumage, one that also- started in the Chesapeake, will be seen in the Wood, and today he went along for a mile and a furlong in 1:57 handily. It is possible he will have Tatterdemalion for a running mate, for the son of St. Germans has shown a readiness in all his gallops. HOLLYROOD MAY REDEEM SELF. Duval Headley will send out Hollyrood to redeem his showing behind Tintagel and Seabiscuit in his only start of the year. He promises the son of High Cloud and Mandy Hamilton will be a better colt Saturday. Willis Sharpe Kilmers Ned Reigh, whipped by Granville in his only start of the year, will have an opportunity to redeem himself, and Delphinium will be saddled to bear the silks of the Brookmeade Stable. Possibly both Memory Book and Galsac will race for the Greentree Stable, and Mr. Bones has been named as a probable starter. Should Fitzsimmons send out four, as appears entirely probable, the field should be the largest and the prize the richest ever hung up since the first running of the Wood Memorial in 1925. At this time the probable field includes Granville, Merry Pete, Teufel, Seabiscuit, Hollyrood, Ned Reigh, Tintagel, Bright Plumage, Tatterdemalion, Bold Venture, Delphinium, Memory Book, Galsac and Mr. Bones. There will probably be some withdrawals from this list, though each of the named eligibles has shown a readiness to race, while there are some others of lesser fame that may readily be sent to the post, and in any event there seems to be a better chance for a big field than there has been in any other running.
