CRACK INAUGURAL FIELD Auroras Opening Feature Attracts Brilliant Band of Sprinters. Heart Break, The Pelican, Hueu, Woodlander and Mr. James Among1 the Probable Starters May 1. AURORA, 111., April 22 Racing secretary Richard Leigh is highly optimistic for one of the finest fields ever to parade to the post in the Fox Valley Inaugural Handicap, ,500 added, at six furlongs, which will feature the opening day of the Aurora course May 1. The probable nominations include some of the leading handicap sprinters which have been running last summer and at winter meetings and it is believed that no less than a field of fourteen will parade to the post, opening day. Among the probable starters are R. A. Cowards Heart Break, winner of eight races this season; Reelon, Butsey Hernandez Flag Cadet, Lolschen, Woodlander and The Pelican; Clyde Troutts Hueu and Lady Federal; Mrs. J. Irwins Drombo, Blue Ridge Stables Mr. James, Old Gold Stables Transmutable, E. K. Brysons Mister Gander, Mrs. A. M. Creechs Crout au Pot and Sound Advice, Clarence Davisons Garden Message, William Days Ding Bin, A. G. Tarns Croon, S. Molays Fire Advance, Mrs. E. Oros The Darb, O. Viaus Pancoast and R. T. Watts Banish Fear. Several of the horses are already on the grounds and the remainder will, come to the Fox Valley course at the close of the Arlington Downs meeting. R. A. Coward, who was one of the leading trainers at the Fair Grounds last winter and who has been racing at Arlington Downs, will ship six head Sunday to Aurora, according to advices received Tuesday. Clyde Troutt wired from Benton, 111., at his farm, that he will bring over five horses from there and the remainder from Texas to be campaigned at the local meeting. He has Palm Island in the Illinois Derby. The stable of Mrs. J. M. Irwin arrived from California Tuesday in the same car with B. B. Johnsons. The horses included Prince Pest, winner of ten races last season; Mr. Ricks, Stolen Color, Brendard, six-time winner, and Drombo, starter in the Inaugural. Jockeys W. Bonnet, J. Burrell and W. Busses will leave the Sheridan Plaza Hotel and the Sheridan Hotel as additional transportation accommodations to Aurora patrons during the race meeting. The Burlington and Aurora and Elgin are the train routes to the course. T. C. Worden nominated Southern Belle for the Illinois Derby, racing secretary Leigh announced. This brings the nominations to twenty-four. They close on May 15. Word has been sent out to horsemen that unless stable room has been assigned, they are advised not to ship to Aurora, as stall room is at a premium. The rain of Monday night was of material assistance to the track and horsemen reported it in splendid shape for the gallops of Tuesday. Alfey Irwin is an arrival from New Orleans.
