ILLINOIS DERBY NEAR ♦ Looks Like a Field of Fifteen Starters in Fridays Race. 1 The Fighter, Rushaway, Bow and Arrow, Grand Slam Considered Among Contestants. AURORA, 111., May 19.— Indications point to a field of fifteen three-year-olds facing starter John Morrissey in the fourth renewal of the Illinois Derby, 2,000 added stake, •which features the final days program at the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs course Friday afternoon. The nominations closed with thirty-seven named for the mile and a furlong race, but less than half the number of candidates are regarded as starters in the stake at this time. It was definitely learned that Holl Image, Wm. E. Schmidts Arkansas Derby winner, will be here to fulfill his engagement and at the same time it was revealed that Butsey Hernandez would be without a representative in the race. ! Though Hernandez nominated both Lols-chen and Flag Cadet for the stake, he reported today that neither racer was at its ,best and he would not send a representative to the post. Lolschen finished second to Rushaway in the Louisiana Derby and was considered a contender for the major honors in the Illinois Derby on the form displayed during the Aurora meeting. However, those regarded as starters in the 2,000 added stake are Bright Light, Bow |and Arrow, Count Morse, Cealaigh, Car-vola, Dnieper, Grand Slam, Holl Image, Ja-ber, Rushaway, Reelon, Split Second, Sangreal, The Fighter, Understand and Bush-master. It was previously announced that Bold Venture, winner of the Kentucky Derby and ;Preakness Stakes and a candidate for the Illinois Derby, would pass up the race, thus making it an open affair. j THE FIGHTER FAVORITE. Advance speculation on the Illinois Derby gives the Milky Way Farms The Fighter, Texas Derby winner and conqueror of Rushaway in that event, a slight edge over the others scheduled to parade to the post. Four prominent Illinois Derby candidates will be moved to Aurora, Wednesday, according to word received here today by R. S. Eddy, Jr , president of the Fox Valley Jockey Club. The Fighter and Sangreal, chief reliances of the Milky Way Farms, will be transferred from Hawthorne to the Aurora course under the direction of trainer Bob McGarvey, while B. B. Williams is to attend to the shipping of the Calumet Farms Count Morse. Jack Carter, trainer of William E. Schmidts Holl Image, also completed arrangements for the transfer of his charge.
